Weekend : Canadian for a day.

Ohh, my dear weekend. You come and go so fast. For the past couple of months I have been constantly going, going, going on the weekends. I have been out of town 11 out of the past 12 weekends. Granted I was doing fun things (visiting my boyfriend, meeting up with friends, etc), I was looking forward to a weekend just laying on my couch and not raising a finger all weekend, except for when I needed to change channels on my TV. I COULD NOT WAIT!

Here were my weekend plans:
Fri- Catch up on DVR shows from the week (The Bachelor..my guilty pleasure/show that makes me feel better about myself because my boyfriend only has one girlfriend).
Sat- Go for a light jog. Enjoy the warm weather. Catch up on some of this blog-stuff. Maybe go to Barnes and Noble and just sit there and read.
Sun- Go to church. Spend the rest of the day doing nothing…again.
Sounds pretty nice huh?

Well this is what ended up happening:

Fri around 3:00 I got a call from a friend who wanted to know if I could play with the Canadian World Cup Lacrosse team in their scrimmage because they were short  a couple of girls. Uh..YEAHHH! Part of me was thinking, “Noooo, my couch will miss me!” Then part of me was thinking, “You have the rest of the weekend to sit on the couch. And let’s be for real- the couch will not miss you.” Then I went through the excuse phase (like I do with everything). “I have a meeting until 4:00.” The meeting got cancelled right after I said that. “I didn’t bring any of my lacrosse gear with me.” I coach high school lacrosse so had everything I needed already packed in my car. “I’m not Canadian.” They knew that, and accepted me anyways. So, I said yes, and made the trek up to Baltimore.

If I ever move to Canada, I would wear these mittens:

After sucking wind, err, I mean, gracefully running up and down the field for a couple of hours, we all went out to grab something to eat. Then I made the long trek back home to Virginia. I got home around 1:00am. But all in all- it was SO worth it. It was also a lot of fun seeing all of my co-workers responses when I told them why I was leaving work early. They were quite surprised, if I do say so myself.

On Saturday, I ended up having an impromptu lacrosse practice for my high school team. It was a lot of fun, except for the fact that it was FAA-REEZZING! I’m from Connecticut, and moved down here for a couple of reasons. One of them was warmer weather. C’mon mother nature, hook me up. The rest of the afternoon I ran errands with my roommate, Needles. Her name is actually Nicole, but needles fits her so much better. I ended up buying a couple of cute tops from T.J. Maxx. Love me some discounts. And thank you for the peer pressure, Needles.

Sunday, I had another lacrosse practice for a post-collegiate club lacrosse team I play for. There goes my church plans. I made sure to listen to the sermon online later, but still not the same.

After lacrosse I was so happy to be finally done with all of the running around, literally, for the weekend, and sit on the couch. But no, there is more. On my way home I got a call from someone on my work soccer team that let me know we had a make-up soccer game at 8:00 and wanted to know if I could make it. In my brain I was saying, “NOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” But for some reason my mouth said, “Yeah! I’ll see you at 8:00!” Well, what’s one more hour of running around, right?

So, my weekend plans to sit on my couch and do nothing turned in to becoming an honorary Canadian and burning 7,000+ calories. Funny how things work like that, huh?

Here is my ode to Canada. Thank you for letting me pretend I live here for a night.

Those who least deserve your prayers need them the most.

This past week I have been in deep prayer for the Yeardley Love family. For those of you who don’t know who she is, she was a beautiful, passionate, athletic and intelligent UVA lacrosse player who was murdered two years ago by her ex-boyfriend, also a UVA lacrosse player. From another lacrosse player, and someone who played against her just weeks before this happened, I can truly say how much I have grieved about what happened. I have felt every emotion there is. Confused, angry, sad, blessed, you name it.

This past Wednesday, two years later, George Huguely was convicted of second degree murder. God has always put people like this on my heart. I can’t tell you why. I have always wondered if there was something that happened in my life that has made me have such a sympathetic heart to the “villians” in the world. The people that got caught in a drunken rage one night and killed their ex-girlfriend because of a fight. The teenager that is drinking at a party on a Friday night and decides to drive home, crashing in to another car along the way. The husband that cheats on his wife.

I want to be clear- I am in no way, shape, or form saying that any of these are okay and should be excused. Because they should not be excused and they should be held accountable for their actions and their poor decisions, whether it was a mistake or not. Whether they were a good kid and just had a laps of judgment for a second, or it’s someone who has continually made bad decisions. But I am saying that these people need prayers too.
Verse
In the UVA murder trial, I’m sure there are a lot of prayers being said for Yeardley’s soul and for her family’s strength. And I in fact continue to pray those prayers as well. People always want to pray for the victims. As they should. But I also want to make sure that we aren’t forgetting to pray for the other side’s soul as well. It is our duty as Christians to pray for them. “He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good.” The Lord made these people in His image as well, and he loves them just as much as the saved. Please pray that God’s grace will penetrate George’s heart and that he will come to Christ.

[Spring Fe●ver] -adj.

Spring Fever [spring fever] -adj. A feeling of restlessness and excitement felt at the beginning of spring.

Remember when I said that I get the worst case of spring fever there is? Well, it started today. It might be Spring’s way of teasing me, because it's still February. Which means plenty of time left for cold weather. But, this past week has been so warm that it makes me want to dance and frolic in the Swiss Alps…similar to The Sound of Music. I’m sure I would sound just the same.

There are many things that happen when Spring starts to come. Just to name a few:

1. Birds start chirping. Check.
2. Sorority girls start walking around in jean skirts, Uggs, and a North Face fleece. A very confusing combination. I'm not around a campus, but probably a check.
3. It stays lighter out longer. Still waiting for this one to happen, but it’s right around the corner. I can smell it.
4. You start to get that “It’s so nice out I want to go for a jog” false-motivation. But then never actually go for a jog. Check on feeling motivated. Check on not actually going for a jog.
5. Dunkin' Donuts starts to put pastel colored sprinkles on their donuts (I know, weird that I know that. But I love donuts. Donut was my first word.). Check.

It's hard for me to exactly describe how I feel.  I think that's the beauty of it- it's an indescribable feeling. So instead, I'll show you with pictures.

If you can, try to get outside and enjoy the nice weather while it's teasing us!

What are your signs that spring is coming?

And in the beginning, there was…an empty blog.

I have wanted to start a blog for a while now, but have been putting it off with every excuse in the book. I have nothing to write about. I don’t have any time. I’m not creative enough. No one cares about what I have to say. Blah blah blah. Let me break that down:
1. “I don’t have any time.” I have PLENTY of time. I am not married, don’t have kids, only have me to take care of. The main demographic of bloggers seems to be moms, and if they have time to make amazing blogs, then a 23 year old with little-to-no commitments has nothing but time to blog.
2. “I’m not creative enough.” I work in advertising at a company where we design custom t-shirts. I am surrounded by creativity all day long.  I have always been the creative one out of my friends (with a few exceptions), and I am obsessed with typography and graphic design. I love DIY crafts, and LOVE photography. Sounds like a recipe for a creative blogger, heh?
3. “No one cares about what I have to say.” Still probably true. But I guess that is the awesome thing about blogging. You aren’t forcing anyone to read your blog (except for all of my close friends, boyfriend, roommate, parents, neighbors, neighbor’s cousin, neighbor’s cousin’s boyfriend, neighbor’s cousin’s boyfriend’s sister…)
So that leaves one last hurdle. “I have nothing to write about.” Most blogs seem to have some sort of theme. Cooking, DIY crafts, photography, home décor, teaching, home-schooling, and the list goes on. For the longest time I have been trying to figure out what the heck I wanted this blog to be about. Whenever I would tell someone, “I’m going to start a blog.” they’re first question is, “About what?” So, to answer that question- I still don’t know what this blog is going to be about. But then I read this post. “…if there is something you are thinking about doing it’s best to just start.”

GAH! Okay, so here I am…with a new plan to just start. As time goes on, it will be come more clear to me what, and if, I want to focus on a certain topic. But for now, it will be about life. My life.

For all of you experienced bloggers out there- I would really appreciate any comments, tips, tricks, feedback on how to make this blog more successful!
